Kyo Karakami – Boke Karakusa (Wild Chrysanthemum Arabesque)

Karakami is a traditional Japanese decorative paper created using techniques similar to woodblock printing. Patterns are applied to paper using carved wooden blocks featuring a variety of intricate designs.

Historically used as fusuma (sliding door) paper to adorn traditional interiors, karakami is now also used in modern spaces as wallpaper, architectural accents, and lampshades.

About the Pattern

Also known as "Nogiku Karakusa" (Wild Chrysanthemum Arabesque), this motif features the chrysanthemum—revered in Chinese culture as a sacred flower.
