Karakami is a traditional Japanese decorative paper created using techniques similar to woodblock printing, produced with wooden blocks carved with various intricate patterns.
While it has traditionally adorned Japanese interiors as fusuma (sliding door) paper, karakami is now also widely used in modern spaces as wallpaper, architectural elements, and lampshades.
We offer full customization, including choices of paper color, printing color, and even original pattern designs. Please feel free to contact us with any inquiries.
[Meaning of the Pattern]
This elegant pattern combines floral arabesques (karakusa), a bird (hōō, or phoenix), and a butterfly (inspired by Chinese húdié). The phoenix, said to appear when a virtuous ruler ascends the throne, symbolizes divine favor, while the butterfly represents longevity. Together, they form an auspicious motif symbolizing good fortune and prosperity.
