Karakami is a type of traditional Japanese decorative paper created using techniques similar to woodblock printing. It is produced using wooden blocks carved with a variety of intricate patterns.
While karakami has long been used to adorn Japanese living spaces as sliding door (fusuma) paper, it is now also widely utilized in modern interiors as wallpaper, architectural elements, and lampshades.
We offer customization options including paper color, printing color, and even original pattern designs. Please feel free to contact us for inquiries.
[Meaning of the Pattern]
This pattern is a stylized design inspired by the surface of decayed wood or worm-eaten boards. The base design features vertically flowing lines, but when placed horizontally, it resembles clouds—this variation is referred to as kuchiki (decayed wood). Such patterns are often used in Shinto festivals and rituals.
