Kyo Karakami – Shunkyo Matsu (Pine by Shunkyo Yamamoto)
Karakami is a traditional Japanese decorative paper created using techniques similar to woodblock printing. The designs are printed using wooden blocks carved with a variety of intricate patterns.
While traditionally used as fusuma (sliding door) paper to enrich living spaces, karakami is now also popular in modern interiors for use as wallpaper, partitions, and lampshades.
We offer full customization of both paper and print colors, and can also create original patterns upon request. Please feel free to contact us.
About the Pattern
This pine motif was originally drawn by Yamamoto Shunkyo, a Japanese painter born in 1871 (Meiji 4).
Alongside Takeuchi Seihō, Shunkyo was a leading figure in the Kyoto art world of modern Japan, known for his grand landscape paintings.
The evergreen pine tree symbolizes vitality and conveys wishes for longevity and prosperity.
