Kyo Karakami – Shichisuji Ichimatsu (Seven-Line Checkered Pattern)

Karakami is a traditional decorative paper made using techniques similar to woodblock printing. Patterns are applied to paper using wooden blocks carved with various intricate designs.

Historically used as fusuma (sliding door) paper to enrich Japanese living spaces, karakami is now widely utilized in modern interiors as wallpaper, architectural accents, and lampshades.

Both the paper color and printing color can be customized, and we also support the creation of original designs. Feel free to contact us for more information.

About the Pattern

The Ichimatsu pattern is named after the Edo-period Kabuki actor Sanogawa Ichimatsu, who popularized it through his costume designs.

The “Shichisuji Ichimatsu” is a variation composed of checkered squares made up of seven parallel lines, evoking a sense of harmony and refined order.
